Firefighters and a rescue boat were also called to the scene, and found the 21-year-old woman in the water near King’s Staith.
A fire brigade spokesman said the woman was found swimming at about 11.30pm, and was left in the care of paramedics. A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “We can confirm officers from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service assisted North Yorkshire Police at 11pm on Tuesday, to rescue a 21-year-old woman who had fallen into the River Ouse. She was treated at the scene by paramedics.”
A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said the woman had contracted hypothermia after spending roughly 40 minutes in the river, and was taken to hospital after she received treatment from on-scene paramedics.
