YORK cyclist Pete Williams just missed out on a podium place at the Tour of Ireland.
The Motorpoint rider finished fifth in the An Post Ras – one minute and 24 seconds behind winner Gediminos Bagdonas.
Williams, who recently won the Tour of Ulster, was in and around the top five throughout the 1,500km event, which took in some notorious climbs, but was unable to crack the final three.
Fellow Motorpoint rider Tobyn Horton, who also lives in York, finished 48th overall – more than 48 minutes adrift.
The highlight of his tour came on stage five when he finished second on the 156km course from Castletownbere to Blarney.
