York resident and North Yorkshire County Council worker Stephen Ralph is riding from York to Scarborough to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice.
The 28-year-old’s mum, Denise, spent a lot of time in the Scarborough-based hospice during a ten-year battle with cancer, dying when Stephen was 11.
Stephen said: “The hospice was always warm and welcoming to my mum and our family and they do fantastic work, year in year out, for many others.”
The 85km ride will take place on Sunday, June 19, to coincide with what would have been Denise’s 60th birthday.
Along the route, Stephen will visit Denise’s grave and the house where he spent the first few years of his life.
