IT IS amazing how many letters are appearing in The Press recently from failed Lib Dem council candidates who criticise Labour after less than a week in office.
The latest is from Nick Love, who was a candidate against me in Holgate ward (It’s hardly fair, May 31). Like his recent letters before, he fails to mention he was a candidate.
He criticises us for delivering on our manifesto pledge to create a high-level post to deal with crime and antisocial behaviour, and for taking some committee chairs on the proportionality residents of York voted for the respective parties.
This is the common practice for most authorities around the country of differing political persuasions, and a far cry from 2003 when Liberal Democrats took almost all such chairs.
If he is unhappy with the proportionality dealt to his party by the residents of York, I think he should look to his party’s own local and national record. While he does so, Labour will deliver on our manifesto.
Coun James Alexander, Labour Leader of City of York Council.
