SO THE Coalition government is now considering paying councils to go back to weekly rubbish collections.
Surely this will defeat the object of the exercise, which was to educate the population of this country to segregate their rubbish, thus recycling metals, paper, plastics and glass, and not put these valuable materials into landfill.
The reason being given for this ridiculous retrograde step is that the fortnightly collections are unpopular – with whom, I wonder? Possibly the owners of wheelie bins whose lids are impossible to shut because the house holders have no idea about management of waste and not creating it in the first place.
Giving billions of pounds in so-called foreign aid is deeply unpopular also, but I do not see the coalition turning that decision around.
