Some big carp have been coming out of local angling fisheries in the past week like this stunning 22lb 5oz mirror carp banked by Adam Snowden from Carpvale Doubles.
It was the biggest of a hectic 24-hour session that saw a further dozen fish grace his unhooking mat.
Fishing into the face of a strong wing he offered Mainline New Grange boilies over a bed of pellet. A small bag of crushed boilies and a critically balanced snowman set-up proved the downfall of the fish.
Elsewhere, some good catches of quality carp have been taken at Pool Bridge where fish to low twenties have been falling to bottom rigs with boilies.
Now the water is starting to warm up and fish are frequenting the upper layers, surface tactics and zig rigs are also accounting for their share of the action.
The Laybourne Lakes fishery has been in good form too with plenty of carp on the move in Marley Lake.
The fishery hosts the York DAA early summer match this weekend and the veterans’ match on Wednesday. Good contests are anticipated as are two good turnouts.
Corn and pellet again proved to be a winning combination at Oaktree Leisure on Sunday, this time for Steph Armitage at peg 52.
Working mainly at 14 metres across to the island, he found carp to 4lb to end the day with 55lb 8oz.
At peg 55, Luke Robinson offered meat at 12m to find a smaller stamp of carp than the winner but his 44lb 8oz was enough to bring second place.
The Tollerton Ponds complex continues to provide reliable match action with Mick Sykes taking the Wednesday open from peg 12 on Kingfisher.
With the carp up in the water he targeted them with pole and pellet-fished shallow for a level 75lb of fish to 6lb.
Keith Garner took second with the top weight from Coot with his 71lb catch. Pellet fished at 13 metres accounted for carp to 7lb.
Others: Lee Simpson (Kerr’s Angling) 43-8-0; Steve Newton (Acomb WMC) 42-0-0.
The weekend open on Heron and Coot went to Graham Skirrie with a level 60lb.
With things having cooled from earlier in the week it was back to bottom fishing tactics as he took a mixed bag on pole and corn and method feeder with pellet.
Paul McCormack was second from peg 9 with 55lb and Steph Armitage third from peg 18 on 54lb.
Others: Jeff Thompson 51-0-0; Mick Glover 49-0-0; Graham Hope 47-8-0; Mark Butcher 40-0-0; Brian Harrison 39-12-0.
