AN excellent, if low scoring, game graced the York & District Junior Cricket Association Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 League (HB) competition as visitors York beat Londesborough Park by just three runs.
For Park, Oliver Ramos made 12, but it was the York bowlers Wordsworth (4-4) and M Scurry (2-5) who made the difference.
Londesborough Park were also involved in another excellent tie which saw hosts Clifton Alliance score a two to tie the game off the last ball, which was an extra delivery due to a no-ball. For Clifton, Joe Kilvington scored ten.
Acomb opened their account with a win over York. Dan Watkinson hit 23, Charlie Marshall 19 and Matty Linarello took 2-7. For York, Scurry was again among the wickets with 2-13.
Marshall (16) and Watkinson (15) were also in the runs in their next game as Acomb overcame Pocklington.
For Pocklington, Rebecca Hill took 2-8 and made 20, Charlie Procter took 2-11 and E Dane made 14.
Acomb qualified for the second round of the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 Cup (HB) Cup with a first round win over Clifton Alliance.
Zac Lawrence took 2-12 and Jack Lawrence 2-6. Joe Stillgoe hit 12 and reliable batsmen Charlie Marshall and Dan Watkinson chipped in with 14 and 13 respectively. Joe Kilvington top-scored with 16 for Clifton.
Just six runs separated Tadcaster Magnet and visitors Wheldrake with the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 League (IB) zone ‘A’ points going to the home team.
For Magnet, L Pratt was the stand out batsman with a knock of 16.
Woodhouse Grange made home advantage count with a zone ‘B’ win over York ‘B’.
Matt Ainley hit 26 and was supported by Joe Allerton (13), while Harrison Hopper and Louie Kirkham each made ten. Harry Matthews took 2-2.
For York, Ryan Beaumont bowled three overs for figures of 1-5.
Osbaldwick continued their winning start with a win at Yapham.
James Hattee top-scored with 29 assisted by Will Dalton (16) and Harry Sheppeard (13). Sheppeard also starred with the ball and claimed 3-8. For Yapham, Robert Boddy made 11.
Runs were on the agenda for Sheriff Hutton Bridge as they took the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U9 League zone ‘A’ points against York ‘B’.
Isaac Gianni top-scored with an excellent 42 with solid knocks from Josh Mould (22), Sam Prins (21) and Edward Ramsden (20). With the ball, Mould took 2-3.
An inexperienced Bolton Percy were next to suffer at the hands of the Sheriff batsmen.
Gianni again led the way with 32 not out. Will Guyer made 19 not out, Prins 17 not out, Ben Carlin 19 not out and Mould 22 not out. Gianni and Mould both bowled two overs without conceding a run as Bridge went to the top of the league.
Ovington shaded Clifton Alliance – the scores were equal but Clifton had lost one more wicket than Ovington. Tim Burgess hit 19 for the winners and D Stevenson 13 for Clifton.
York ‘A’ batsmen Sam Backhouse (26) and Ryan Beaumont (33) were on form as their team took the zone ‘B’ points against Dunnington ‘B’ and top spot.
Jack Wilson scored 16 and Jack Batchelor ten in Dunnington’s reply.
Acomb ‘C’ have taken over the fixtures from Drax who have withdrawn from the league.
In their opener against Acomb ‘B’ they were just pipped to the points.
For the ‘B’ teams, B F Kay hit 24, K Micholi 13 and D Simpson 12. In reply, B Thornton made 17, O Hedley Jones 11 and C Wood 10. The most economical bowlers were K Micholi (1-3) for the ‘B’ team and opponent B Thornton (1-2).
Dunnington ‘A’ made it two zone ‘C’ wins out of two after beating visitors Londesborough Park thanks mostly to their batsman but also some miserly bowling.
Tom Nicholson made 21 supported by Charles Ford with 20 and Harry Griffiths 17. Charlie Cresswell had figures of 1-2, Jay Tolworthy 1-3 and Charlie Blackburn 1-5, while Griffiths’ two overs did not conceded a single run.
A close encounter at Yapham ended in a victory for Selby ‘A’.
Charlie Buckle (13), Harry Jones (13) and James Cardy (12) were the pick of the home batsmen.
In the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire U13 League zone ‘A’, both hosts Acomb ‘B’ and Bolton Percy struggled against blustery and dusty conditions resulting in 46 wides and 11 no-balls.
Visitors Bolton Percy posted a useful total of 98-4 with Andrew Shepherd 30 not out, Louis Faithful 12 and Cyril Farrar 16 not out. Ben Botterill was the pick of the Acomb bowlers with 1-8.
Acomb’s reply of 99-4 centred on J Spaven with 30 not out, assisted by J Humphries (11 not out) and D Everard (13). Farrar was the pick of the visiting bowlers with 2-8.
G Ullyot (31) and M Proctor (30) put Thixendale in charge with a score of 151-7.
Z Wooley (3-9) and J Lear (2-5) then prevented the young Ovington team from getting anywhere near.
Pocklington’s 90-9 came mainly from the bat of J Aconley’s 30 despite 3-12 from S Backhouse.
Dringhouses were skittled for 49 with A Brash (3-1) and (2-3) from N Smith. Pocklington head the table unbeaten in four games.
In a game of many extras, Bryce Wilson scored 32 for Drax in a total of 85-8. Sam Ward (3-11) was Tadcaster Magnet’s best.
An unbeaten partnership from G Brown (22) and Tom Woofenden (20), supported by T Shann (20), saw Tadcaster take the points. Tyler Thomas 2-11 was the pick of the Drax bowling.
Osbaldwick’s A Burton and Jay Snowdon scored 30 each in their 104-2 total in the zone ‘B’ match against Heworth.
An unbeaten 32 from Matthew Fairburn failed to lift Heworth, who succumbed to 55 all out with 3-2 from James Hattee.
Clifton Alliance did well to bowl out Sheriff Hutton Bridge for 98 – J Atkinson taking 2-6 with Dan Cass unbeaten on 33 and B Wheeler 25.
However, 5-3 from G Thompson turned the tables as they subsided to 39 all out.
A Taylor (30) and Will Fryer (23) got Acomb ‘A’ to 122-7. A knock of 24 from H Robinson proved not to be enough and Ovington ‘A’ fell 18 runs short at 104 all out as Acomb powered to the top.
A tight game saw York ‘A’ scramble to 72, but it proved too much for Malton and Old Malton who were all out 23 runs short.
Figures of 4-5 from Tom Loten, and 3-8 from Will Jones, skittled Bishopthorpe for 36 and set up an easy ten-wicket zone ‘C’ triumph for Dunnington.
In another game of high extras, plus 30 not out from B Burdett, and 32 not out from Tom Stubley, Woodhouse Grange helped themselves to 106-4 against Yapham.
The reply perished at 49 to the bowling of L Wilson (3-2) and W Blackburn (2-2).
Batsmen were on top at York ‘B’ with A Martin (30), W Andrews (22) and R Brown (20) making the runs in a total of 102-4.
Visitors Stamford Bridge were unable to keep up with the run rate despite 20 from A Harrison and fell 14 runs short.
The Londesborough Park batsmen scored heavily at Selby – Nathan Saltmer (32), Ben Shingles (31) and H Gamble (30) – in a total of 137-1. Harry Cruise scored 27 in reply, almost half of Selby’s total runs, as they closed on 56-6.
