DOUBLE cup winners Wigginton Grasshoppers Football Club Under-14s are now aiming to conquer Europe.
The York youngsters are heading for an end-of-season tour to Eindhoven in Holland after a season which ended with them scooping the York FA Cup and the York Minor League Cup.
The Grasshoppers toppled a good Pocklington side on penalties after a high-quality York FA Cup final clash at Bootham Crescent.
Wigginton took that confidence into their League Cup final against Copmanthorpe and they pulled off a 4-1 victory.
Brad Winters scored a first-half hat-trick and James Brown bagged the fourth in the second half.
Although the side failed to meet their expectations in the league, they travel to Europe boosted by their knockout form.
Grasshoppers will play three Dutch sides as they protect an unbeaten touring record from previous visits to Holland.
The Wigginton U11s emulated their senior counterparts by winning the Ryedale League Cup final at Bootham Crescent, beating Copmanthorpe 1-0 with a goal from captain Owen Marshall.
Meanwhile, the club’s U8s side reached the quarter-finals of the Monk Fryston FC junior gala in their first competitive tournament before bowing out on penalties.
Coach Rudie Humphrey said: “We took a good team and it was a real shame to lose on penalties.”
