A MINIBUS company which specialises in providing transport for schools and physically disabled passengers has been nominated in the Service With A Smile category in the York Community Pride Awards.
Jenny and Neil Chadwick run Access Travel, in New Earswick, which operates throughout North Yorkshire.
The company was nominated by Martin Lyle, from The Glen Short Breaks Centre in Clifton, one of many businesses which uses its services.
Martin said: “Their work in transporting young people with difficulties to and from school is of the highest standard. Some of the journeys undertaken are of great length and time, which occasionally can be distressing.
“The support given through a person-centred approach, good humour, and the playing of specific music ensures the journeys are fulfilling.”
This is the eighth year The Press has run the awards with City of York Council and a host of local businesses.
Jenny said: “We’re just a little two-man band. We started this disabled transport business about six years ago.
“We try to treat everyone else’s children as we would treat our own. We don’t think of it as anything special.
“I was really embarrassed when I heard we’d been nominated, because we’re just the same as everyone else, but it’s very nice to be recognised.”
All nominees must live in or be based in the City of York Council tax area, and the winners will be invited to a special awards ceremony in October.
Nominations can be made online before Friday, July 22.
