Three generations of a York family will have a late night together on Saturday as they raise funds for St Leonard’s Hospice on the 6.5-mile-long Midnight Walk.
Doreen Angell, whose husband was cared for by St Leonard’s, will be joined by her daughter Dawn Johnson and Dawn’s children, Charlotte 16, and Bethany, 13, as well as her other granddaughters, Sophie Angell, 19, and Kelly Angell, 16.
They have taken part in the hospice’s Midnight Walk in previous years, and are looking forward to this year’s event, on Saturday, June 18, which starts and finishes at York College, in Sim Balk Lane.
Walkers check in between 10.30pm and 11.30pm and the walk begins at midnight. There is a charge of £12.50 (£7.50 for those 16 or under; they must be accompanied by an adult).
Dogs, on a lead, are free. Participants are encouraged to get sponsorship. Last year’s walk raised more than £30,000, and all proceeds will go to the £3.4 million annual cost of running the hospice.
