YORK’S first team golf league got off to a scorching start at Skelton Park.

A total of 18 players featured on the inaugural night to the delight of organiser Martin Alderson-Crombie.

Included were Skelton Park co-owner Juilan Davies and club pro Andrew Wright, whose son James played as the only junior. Both father and son tied on 16 points alongside Davies.

Said Alderson-Crombie: “Everyone really enjoyed the evening and we are all really looking forward to the next nine weeks.

“Players still have until June 23 to join the league because even though we are playing for ten weeks, you only have to play in seven weeks to qualify.”

Each of the players included a weekly added bonus of +1 for scoring more than 15 stableford points, +2 for scoring beyond 18 and +3 for a plus-21 tally.

There are also an extra three bonus points for the nearest the pin winner, who in the debut week was Paul Hillaby to land him a new golf umbrella.
