WITH reference to the new café-bar in Marks & Spencer stated as being the first in the building (The Press, May 28).
I beg to differ: during the last war and afterwards there was quite a large café-cum-restaurant on the ground floor.
My mother, Lily Busby, went to work there as a washer-up person and ended up as café-bar manageress, fully trained by chefs.
The café was popular with US and Canadian servicemen and my mother procured for me, aged 14, the first pair of nylons any of us had ever seen. Sheer bliss, one might say!
