WITH regards to the article, “Patient told to get a taxi to hospital”, it may soon be all patients taking taxis (The Press, June 1).
My husband is in the transport service of YAS (Yorkshire Ambulance Service) and at a meeting held only this week, his colleagues were told all their jobs could be lost if they do not agree to work bank holidays, as from later this year as part of their work – ie work without any extra pay.
It is appalling that managers can browbeat the lowest-paid sector of the transport service into giving more and more and paying them less and less; asking them to now cover bank holidays without pay for it is in fact a pay cut.
How many patient transport managers could we lose without seeing any difference to the service?
