A FINAL round of 69 propelled Simon Dyson into the top 20 at the Saab Wales Open.

The 33-year-old York golfer fired five birdies yesterday to finish the Celtic Manor event on a positive note with a two-under par round.

That left the Malton & Norton Golf Club star at one-over par for the tournament, which was won by Sweden’s Alexander Noren on nine under.

Dyson hit the turn in level par after a birdie at the fifth hole was cancelled out by a bogey on the sixth.

The back nine started with two birdies and, despite two dropped shots in three holes, he picked up shots at two of the last four to move up into a tie for 20th place to pick up 22,444 euros.

A double-bogey start saw Dyson get off on the wrong foot in Saturday’s third round.

A six at the first was followed by dropped shots at the par four fourth and eighth holes before he registered a birdie at the ninth.

He picked up a further shot on the par four 12th but shots went astray on 14 and 17 before a closing birdie left him with a three-over par round of 74.
