READING of speeding motorists in Full Sutton reminds me of around three years ago, when the village of Bubwith had a scarecrow competition (The Press, June 2).

One of the scarecrows was a lookalike policeman, standing against a tree entering the village from the east. In time it had to be removed because the police said it was distracting motorists.

Too true, it was, but the main street through Bubwith was a safer place.

Why the police should have been worried I just don’t know; it was doing their job for them slowing down speeding motorists. Every village should have one.

At around the same time a life-size cardboard look-a-like policeman was doing the trick outside a shop on Market Weighton.
