THE search is on to find York’s most stylish racegoer.
Top designer Jeff Banks was flanked by milliner Yvette Jelfs, the creator of the Clothes Show Live, June Barker and models who showcased some of Debenhams’ iconic designer names at the launch of Fashion On The Field, at York Racecourse.
The aim is to find the most fashionable racegoer at York’s Ebor meeting in August.
Jeff, one of Britain’s foremost fashion designers, famous for creating Warehouse and presenting The Clothes Show, said: “Going to the races is one of the few sporting events both women and men can really dress up for.
“Women especially love putting together an outfit and of course a hat is a must for the races. It is a fabulous day out for females who can get together, have a drink in a safe environment and have a flutter.”
Both men and women can enter and either could be crowned the overall winner. To take part, fashionable folk heading to the Ebor meeting from August 17 to 20 can register for free online at fashiononthefield.co.uk
Each day there will be a heat winner who will receive £100 of vouchers from Debenhams and a bottle of champagne. Each heat winner will be invited back on Saturday, August 20, to take part in the final.
A judging panel, which will include top designers Ben de Lisa, Pearce II Fionda, Matthew Williamson and Aliza Reger, will select the most fashionable entrant, and the overall winner will receive a selection of prizes, including £500 of Debenhams vouchers, a holiday and champagne.
Jeff said a similar event had proved successful in Australia, where a trainee doctor about to be evicted from her home won enough cash to buy a house and finish her training.
“We would love to find a similar story here in York,” he added.
“It is not about finding a size six model. It is about finding a stylish somebody who catches the eye of judges.”
