PROMOTION challengers Wetherby Castlegarth moved into second place in Tyke Petroleum Men’s Doubles Tennis League division two with a derby win over Starbeck.
Roger Fawcuss and David Woon were joint top-scorers with 24 games to ease Castlegarth to a 62-46 win. The only rubber won for Starbeck came from captain Dave Tripp and Malcolm Titchmarsh, who ended on 17.
In division six, Poppleton 3 new boy Edwin Simpson partnered Andy Greenall for an impressive 30-game debut, as they trounced Wilberfoss 2 79-29 to go into third place.
David Lloyd 2 were without a game so Harlow’s lead is now two points after a victory over bottom team Dunnington 3.
Steve Duckenfield and John Shackleton again starred with 26 games. Wheldrake started strongly at home against Cliffe, but Luke Crowther and Callum Hancox won 25 games to seal a 61-47 Cliffe win. Home captain Les Fowler and Jason Watson won 22 games.
The division seven top-of-the-table showdown saw second-placed York 4 go down 62-46 at home to leaders Stamford Bridge 2.
York 4 stay ahead of Bishopthorpe 2, whose captain Jason Levesley and Sam Watson won 27 games in a 60-48 win at home to Boston Spa 3.
Father and son pair Andy and Joe Galloway notched 30 games for Wigginton 4 but they went down 55-53 to Wigginton 3.
