I THOUGHT I would go out for a bike ride the other day.
After selling my mountain bike to fund my new road bike, I have been enthusiastic to get out around York and do some serious cycling. After all York is a ‘Cycling City’.
I do find this branding funny, however.
After negotiating pothole after pothole, I found myself walking home with a burst inner tube and a buckled wheel.
I thought that perhaps ‘York a pothole city’ would have been a more appropriate tag.
If I wasn’t trying to negotiate potholes, it was the cracks in the road which were tying to throw me over my handlebars. Why is it that the road quality in and around York is so incredibly poor?
Perhaps this is all due to the previous council wasting all the roads money in its world record attempt to see how many times they could have the roundabouts on the A1237 rebuilt?
