I WISH to express my disapproval over the decision made to withdraw the Hodgson & Son evening weekend bus service from York to Easingwold.
I recently moved to Tollerton after living in York and the service provided me with a vital link to friends and family in the city. Like many others, I fully expected the Hodgson (31X & 29A) service to be protected from cuts as it was an essential weekend public transport link between York and villages to the north, but sadly I was proved wrong.
Many weekend workers relied on the bus as a means of returning home after work. To sever the vital evening link from village to city seems badly considered and will offer little encouragement for people contemplating a move to the country.
I understand the service was partly funded by North Yorkshire County Council and I fully appreciate cuts must be made. However, there must be alternative solutions such as increasing the price of a ticket to cover costs or running the service only on a Friday or a Saturday.
I strongly hope, as do many others, that the decision made to cut the evening bus service will be reconsidered.
Rob Johnson, Main Street, Tollerton.
