YOUNGSTERS from a York primary school got a taste of the world of work as part of the city’s Children’s University taster week.
Pupils from Haxby Road School teamed up with Network Rail to find out more about life outside the classroom.
A range of activities took place at York primary schools throughout this week, gave volunteers from businesses across the city an insight into how they can inspire disadvantaged children to learn by linking real life to the classroom.
Led by employee-volunteering charity York Cares, York Children’s University supports children aged seven to 14, particularly those from disadvantaged areas, to learn through extra-curricular and out-of-hours activities delivered by employee and university student volunteers.
During the taster week, volunteers worked in teams of three to deliver a one-hour lunchtime lesson to Year 4, 5 or 6 pupils at ten primary schools including Osbaldwick, Tang Hall, Westfield, Carr Juniors, Haxby Road and St Paul’s.
