POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for information, exactly five months after a man was brutally attacked in his York home and left fighting for his life.

Dominic Conlan, 56, suffered severe head injuries after he was beaten up in his flat in The Groves on January 8.

The former businessman finally came out of his coma six weeks after the attack, but he is still being treated in Leeds General Infirmary.

Police say his condition continues to improve but he is still unable to communicate with officers.

Police are facing a daily wait to see whether Mr Conlan, who suffered several blows to his head and body, resulting in fractures to his face and skull, will become well enough to be able to identify his attackers.

DCI Nigel Costello, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “This is still very much a live investigation and I urge anyone with any information to contact the police straight away.”

Officers are still trying to locate a white and green tracksuit which they believe was worn by someone involved in the attempted murder and later discarded.

Twelve people have been arrested in connection with the assault and police also recovered a Dell laptop taken from Mr Conlan’s house on the night he was assaulted.

The attempted murder sparked a massive police investigation with pedestrians and motorists in the local community quizzed and forensic examinations conducted at Mr Conlan’s flat in March Street.

But nobody has yet been charged with his attempted murder. Detectives said they were still searching for that vital clue which would help them to establish exactly who was responsible for his injuries. All 12 people arrested in the case are currently on police bail.
