THE father of a 12-year-old boy who was found hanging in his bedroom is planning to stage an all-night vigil in York city centre tonight.
Mike Wilson is holding the “justice for Liam” vigil in St Sampson’s Square on the eve of an inquest into the death of his son, Liam Cole.
He said he would be collecting signatures for a petition calling for a note, written by Liam before he died, to be read out in full at the inquest, which takes place tomorrow afternoon.
The Press reported in January how Liam was found unconscious by his mother, Nicky, in his bedroom at their home in Bramham Avenue, Chapelfields, with a cord around his neck and the other end tied around the top of his bunk bed.
His parents spoke then of their devastation at the loss of a “talented, kind-hearted” son, saying his death had come out of the blue and was a complete shock which had left them numb.
York Coroner Donald Coverdale, who did not wish to comment yesterday, said in January the inquest would take into account all of the available evidence.
He confirmed a note had been found and said he would make a decision on whether it should be read out when the time came to hold the inquest.
