MORE martial arts plaudits are heading York’s way after Andy Wilby and Darren Catterson were chosen to coach Great Britain ranks.
Wilby, 49, from Blossom Street, York, will lead Britain’s full contact fighters for the upcoming World Association Kickboxing Organisation (WAKO) World and European Championships, while Catterson, 35, of Acomb, will help to coach the ‘light continuous’ combatants.
Wilby is the chief instructor and founder of the Way of Life Thai Boxing Club, which is based at the Multi-Masters Academy (MMA) in Redeness Street, off Layerthorpe.
Catterson is a chief instructor at the MMA Kickboxing Club.
The Press reported only last week how 12 members of the Way of Life and MMA ranks had won eight medals at the WAKO Judgement Day competition in Sheffield.
One of them, Catterson’s daughter, Courtney Catterson, who is coached by Wilby, has also been selected for the GB team to compete in the European Junior Championships in Italy in September.
The 14-year-old will compete in the light continuous event. She won a silver medal in the World Junior Championships in Belgrade last year.
