STREET lighting power reductions to me seem ill advised (Letters, June 6). There are some things that just have to be paid for.
Women walking home in the dark have to feel safe. Anyone up to no good will be strongly deterred if our streets are fully lit.
The cost is worth the peace of mind for everyone.

• CHRISTIAN Vassie argues that “Lowering lights bills isn’t such a dim idea”. Yet dimming streetlights can be daunting to those who have poor vision – such people in our community must not be put at risk.
Instead, I would suggest looking around at lights in many communal areas that are still on during daylight hours.
