UNIVERSITIES, colleges, and residents in York have been urged to support students who may be vulnerable to extremism.
City of York Council has supported Theresa May, the Home Secretary, who launched the new government Prevent Strategy on Tuesday, which involves joint action by the police, local authorities and community groups.
Tim Madgwick, North Yorkshire Police’s temporary deputy chief constable, said the force was “fully committed to promoting the strategy”.
He said: “We also urge family members and friends to engage in Prevent by seeking professional assistance that is readily available when an individual’s behaviour is a cause for concern.”
