A HEROIN addict has been jailed for four weeks after police caught him with two bottles of a heroin substitute in his pocket.
Methadone is only legal with a doctor’s prescription and can only be administered under very controlled conditions.
Cathy Turnbull, prosecuting, said Steven George Kerr had two bottles of the heroin substitute on him when police stopped him just after midnight in Barlby Road, Selby, on March 6. He has previous street drug convictions.
Kerr, 34, of Highfield Crescent, Barlby, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of methadone. Magistrates jailed him for 28 days.
Keith Haggerty, representing Kerr, said Kerr had a heroin problem and was using the methadone to alleviate his drug-related symptoms.
