CAR park wardens in Selby have entered a 90-day consultation over their jobs as part of a council restructure.
Selby District Council has three, part-time wardens responsible for patrolling council-owned car parks, but their roles will soon be merged into the new community team.
A council spokesman said: “The whole of Selby District Council is going through a major restructure.
“The aim is to split the commissioning and delivery of services to achieve greater efficiencies.
“As part of this restructure all staff have been going through a recruitment process, with the vast majority going through an application process for positions within the new structure.
“The car-park wardens have been going through exactly the same process as everyone else in the council.”
The new community team will consist of 45 members who will cover issues including car parks.
Other issues the community team will cover include environmental health, housing management, planning enforcement, and dealing with homelessness.
Last year, the council announced a new approach to delivering services which would see 14 council staff contract out services to third parties.
The approach, which was launched in April, aims to help the authority save £1.5 million this year, and £3 million a year by 2014.
A council spokesman said: “Regardless of the outcome of the recruitment, the car-park warden function will still be undertaken by the council.
“There are no plans to change the service, just the way in which it is delivered.
“That is not to say that the current car-park wardens will not be successful in applying for new positions. This recruitment process is ongoing.”
