STAFF and students at a top-performing college have celebrated the official opening of their new campus.
Selby College, which has been in the top ten per cent of English colleges since 1993, held the opening ceremony of the Abbot’s Road site yesterday.
Guests included Coun Kay McSherry, chairman of Selby District Council, representatives from local firms, and Vernon Wells, the chairman of Selby College Corporation, who unveiled a commemorative plaque.
There was a live performance by Selby Youth Jazz Orchestra, a tour of the facilities, a fashion show and a demonstration of the college’s CNC engineering equipment.
Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, had intended to conduct the opening ceremony, but was unable to attend due to ill health, but sent congratulatory message.
