ORGANISERS of this year’s York festival for the over-50s are looking for younger generations to get involved as well.
The York 50+ Festival takes place from Saturday, September 24 to, Sunday, October 2.
Co-ordinator Sue Lister said in 2010 many students from schools in the York area pulled together to create entertaining and memorable days for the elderly, with everything from afternoon tea and cake at Poppleton Road Primary School to visits to Abbeyfield House residential home by the students of Dringhouses School.
She said she would like to hear from schools or colleges in the area interested in getting involved in this year’s event. “It’s all about inclusion,” she said. “It’s about people of all ages, races, faiths, abilities, partner preferences, sharing a feel-good experience, easing isolation by making new friends, promoting understanding and the celebration of diversity.”
She urged schools and colleges in applications by July 20.
