A HOTEL is helping to celebrate the vital role played by carers throughout the York area.
To help launch UK Carers’ Week, which begins on Monday, the Best Western Monkbar Hotel is hosting a day of Fun And Frolics, featuring musical entertainment, refreshments, tasting tables and information tables.
The free event, taking place from 10.30am on Monday, has been organised by the York Carers’ Forum, which, since its launch in 2008, offers support to all unpaid carers and former carers aged over 18 who live, work or care for someone in the City of York.
Monkbar Hotel director June Nelsey, who has been appointed a patron of the York Carers Forum, as she herself had been a carer both for her husband and her mother, said the work carers did often went unnoticed and unrecognized.
“Many carers dedicate their lives to looking after relatives or friends and York Carers Forum is there to offer support, advice and a listening ear,” she said.
