POLICE are appealing for help in tracing a teenager involved in a hit-and-run accident while riding a stolen motorcycle.

At about 4.10pm on Monday, the red and silver Yamaha motorcycle collided with a blue Renault Megane on Broadway in York. The motorcycle had been reported stolen from a property in Burton Stone Lane, York, the previous week.

The two boys riding the motorcycle ran off from the scene of the crash with two officers tracing one, a 15-year-old from York, shortly afterwards.

However, the other youth has not been found. He is described as white, aged between 15 and 18 with short hair. He was wearing a white short-sleeved t-shirt, dark trousers and distinctive dark-coloured trainers with bright yellow or green soles.

He was last seen running from the scene of the collision on Broadway towards the university.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the bike being ridden before the crash, or saw the youth running away, to contact them. Also, if anyone knows of anyone who acquired a red and silver Yamaha between May 30 and June 6, but no longer has the bike, they are asked to phone the police.

Anyone with information should phone PC Mark Patterson at York police, on 0845 60 60 247, or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The arrested youth has been released on bail while the investigation continues. The driver of the Megane was uninjured.
