THE Press 0f May 24 contained news of a fruit and vegetable store closing. I say “well done and congratulations” to John Mannion for 25 years of good service.
I used to live in Rufforth and travelled daily to work, and often on the same bus would be John’s mum going to join his dad, Wilf Mannion on the stall in York market.
I remember the stall very well, because of the way it was always displayed. It was like a magnet, it drew you to it. Now John and family are going to open a café in Blake Street, nice to know that market stall will still be of service.
Good luck John, your mum and dad would be very proud of your achievements.
I must also say thank you to The Press for the page of Yesterday Once More.
I remembered the little shop in Tanner Street/North Street with the jars of sweets. Seeing the picture and write up transported me back in time, if only for a few minutes.
Thank you for the memories.
