If you are on the lookout for a fine family home with style and space then here’s a few to consider, says Brian Page.
Can we have less of the gloom and doom please... That was one disgruntled reader’s comment after last week’s column on couples separating and setting up home in singles accommodation. (Although others were grateful for us showing them what kind of homes were on the rental market for new-found singleton status).
Hey, ho, time to move on – and this week we are looking at homes ideal for families moving into the area or who are looking to rent larger homes.
Starting with an absolute gem of a house...
It is a gorgeous Grade II listed terraced house in Holgate Road, a fantastic location within easy walking distance of the city centre and railway station and offering easy access to the A64 and A59.
Having a wealth of original features throughout, this period treasure is laid over four floors and has a real bonus in the shape of gardens to front and back and parking for two vehicles.
The house itself offers an entrance hall leading to a ground floor lounge, family room/bedroom four and cloakroom.
To the lower ground floor there is a dining room and large breakfast kitchen with oven and dishwasher and utility room – and doors out to the rear garden.
To the first floor is the family bathroom with walk-in shower area and master bedroom and to the second floor are two further bedrooms. A superb period home offered by Arena Letting at £1,500pcm.
A similarly spacious – but very different – home is offered by Stephensons. Rawcliffe Moor Farm is a delightful, large and lovely farmhouse in a rural location – yet still conveniently close to Clifton Moor and the ring road.
Offered unfurnished and recently decorated, it boasts a hall, lounge, dining room, large fitted kitchen and utility room and cloakroom. There are four bedrooms and a bathroom. With a large garden and an orchard, this is a smashing family home, offered at £925pcm.
Still on a big and beautiful theme, Linley and Simpson have a well-presented four bedroomed detached house in Trenchard Road, a quiet cul-de-sac off Boroughbridge Road in York. Here you will find an entrance hall, cloakroom, breakfast kitchen with range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer, a dining room and living room with gas fire. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room, there are two further double bedrooms and a single bedroom and bathroom and separate WC.
The property also has gardens to the front and rear, off-street parking, a single garage, gas central heating and double glazing. The rental is £995pcm.
‘Larger than average’ is how Martin and Co describe our next offering, a spacious end terraced house in Huntington Road, close to schools, York hospital, Nestlé and within walking distance of York city centre. Here there is an entrance hall with original tiled floor, a large lounge with feature fireplace, separate dining room and fully fitted kitchen with walk in pantry.
There’s also a ground-floor shower room, two double bedrooms and a single bedroom/study. The package is wrapped up by a large rear enclosed courtyard garden and on street parking. Newly decorated and carpeted throughout it is offered at a rental of £695pcm.
Letters Ltd, meanwhile, can offer us two family homes. The first is in Forestgate, Haxby, a spacious, light unfurnished terraced with a large open-plan lounge/dining room with dual aspect and a modern kitchen with new electric oven, hob, new fridge and washing machine. There are two double bedrooms with fitted wardrobes and a single bedroom. The modern house bathroom has a bath and separate shower cubicle.
A lovely rear garden with patio area, single garage and driveway completes the package for which the rental is £795pcm.
The second Letters Ltd offering is in Flaxman Avenue, Tang Hall, a good-sized furnished four-bedroomed semi within walking distance of local shops and ideal for sharers or a family wanting a ‘granny flat’. Here there is a spacious reception room and good-sized kitchen diner with dual fuel range-style cooker, fridge freezer and washing machine.
The house has two double bedrooms and one large single and a modern shower room. The bonus here comes in the form of a semi self-contained ground-floor studio comprising of a kitchen with gas hob, electric oven, washing machine and fridge, a shower room and studio equipped with double bed, armchair, dining table and chairs. Off-street parking and a rear garden complete the package which is to let at a price of £880pcm.
We finish with two out-of-town properties. The first, offered by Susie Smith Lettings, is a superb four-bed unfurnished detached dormer bungalow in Ramsey Avenue, Bishopthorpe.
‘Light and bright and presented to the highest standards’ is how the agents describe this home. It has an entrance hall, large through lounge, dining kitchen and WC and bedroom four/study.
There are three double bedrooms (master with an en-suite) and a large family bathroom. Front and rear gardens and a garage are included in the package which offered as a one-year let at £1,195pcm.
And, in our traditional last but certainly not least spot, is a ‘deceptively spacious family home in the sought after spot of Maxwell Road in Pocklington. Offered by Reeds Rains, it features an entrance hall, spacious sitting room, separate dining room, a kitchen and pantry.
To the first floor there are three double bedrooms and a fourth bedroom/study and family bathroom and separate WC.
With established gardens to front and rear and a brick built single garage – and presently undergoing a programme of refurbishment – this home is offered at a rental of £950pcm.
