THREE teenagers from the York area who “climbed” almost two Mount Everests at Easter have raised £635 for York Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit.
The Press reported in April how Christopher Ross, Ben Rule and Sam Woodcock, all Year 11 pupils at Archbishop Holgate School, York, hoped to scale a combined total of 9,000 metres – the height of the world’s highest mountain – on the ten-metre climbing wall at Energise, in Acomb.
But they ended up climbing 15,000 metres between them by the end of their epic, week-long challenge.
The trio were inspired to raise funds for the unit after the baby of a member of staff at their school was cared for there. Sam also spent time in the unit when he was a baby.
Now Christopher’s parents Melanie and Chris say they have finally been able to get money counted and found the boys had raised £635.61 in cash with another £40 Just Giving – “a very admirable amount for their hours of climbing and blisters!”
