A PENSIONER who died following a crash on the outskirts of York swerved into the path of a lorry, an inquest heard.

Kenneth Green was seriously injured when the Ford Focus he was driving was involved in a collision with a green tipper truck on the A1079 at Dunnington last week, shortly after the 81-year-old had left his home in Huntington.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by helicopter, but died last Thursday.

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.

York coroner Donald Coverdale said the information he had received so far about the accident said there had been “some concern” about the manner of Mr Green’s driving before the crash, which happened just after 6.35am between Common Lane and Dauby Lane.

The lorry was heading towards York at the time and Mr Green, who Mr Coverdale said had been described as “a fit man for his age”, suffered multiple injuries in the collision.

A post mortem examination has been carried out and the inquest adjourned until a later date to allow funeral arrangements to be made.

The stretch of road where the crash happened was closed for six-and-a-half hours afterwards and North Yorkshire Police are continuing to appeal for information about the collision.
