YORK Boxing Club wrapped up the current season with a superb triumph on rival North Yorkshire territory.
Within a matter of hours Oliver Ward stepped into the breach to take on a fight in Scarborough after the original opponent for West Leeds ABC’s Stuart Mann was ruled unavailable.
Ward made the trip along the A64 and delivered a rattling performance to beat Mann, who had won all five of his previous five contests.
Said head coach Billy Wilson: “Ollie only took the fight at short notice but it was a great win on a cracking night and it has summed up our season in a way.
“The club has had fighters travelling not only across Yorkshire but up to the North-East and down as far as Nottinghamshire.
“We have had 84 bouts this season and we have had Thomas Mulvenna winning the Yorkshire senior championship as well as Felix James and Thomas Macdonald winning through to the national semi-schoolboys’ finals after winning their Yorkshire titles.
“Now we are planning for next year and an even better season when it starts at the end of September.”
