DOZENS of residents in a North Yorkshire village were subjected to a day without power, after thieves stole cable from electricity pylons.
Police were alerted to the theft of cable from wooden poles in Aire View, Chapel Haddlesey, just after 3am yesterday.
Janet Smith, vice chair of the parish council, said not all properties in the village had been affected.
She said: “I believe it was out since the early hours of the morning, and some properties don’t have power but my house hasn’t been affected. I work at the local school, and it was without power, and that still didn’t have power when I left at about 4pm. Luckily we had planned a trip to Elvington Air Museum, so the children weren’t affected, and we all had packed lunches.”
A police spokesman said it was not clear how much cable had been stolen. CE Electric UK made the scene safe and worked to restore power through the day.
