THREE men have been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after members of the public raised the alarm.
The group were spotted getting out of a suspected stolen yellow Fiat Panda at the St James Retail Park, in Knaresborough, at about 9.20pm on Wednesday.
Police said one of them appeared to be staggering. The three returned to the car shortly afterwards and it drove off in a very erratic manner. Staff from a nearby business also called the police to report their concerns about the way it was being driven.
Minutes later, officers found three men with the vehicle.
All three denied driving the car and all were breathalysed. Their breath tests revealed between 87 and 141 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
All three were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and on suspicion of vehicle theft.
The men, one aged 22 and the other two both 26, were all from the Manchester area. They have been released on bail while inquiries continue.
Any members of the public who saw the Fiat are asked to phone police on 0845 6060 247, quoting 12110094169.
