AN evening out with work colleagues cost a 20-year-old scout leader his driving licence when he tried to drive home and ended up crashing his car, magistrates heard.
Cathy Turnbull, prosecuting, said Samuel David Happs went off the road on the B1228 Elvington Road close to Grimston Bar.
He told police he had driven from Castle car park and had been driving fast, which could be why he had come off the road.
Happs, of The Laurels, Barmby Moor, pleaded guilty to drink-driving. He was fined £200 plus a £15 compulsory victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs. He was also banned from driving for 20 months. He had no previous convictions.
The court heard he had done a lot of charity work and was now a young leader for the Scouts.
