The artwork for You & I resembles a cherished and much played ‘Seventies vinyl LP, complete with circular storage wear marks.
The artwork certainly matches the music. The likes of You’ll Be Mine, Glorious and Love You More have a certain retro feel, not unlike Joni Mitchell or Rickie Lee Jones, with harmonies inspired by Simon and Garfunkel. Music like this has the habit of touching the heart and becoming precious to the listener.
One may be surprised to learn that You & I is the fourth LP from the Pierce siblings, but it took Coldplay’s producer Rik Simpson to introduce the band to a much wider appreciative audience, including the lucky few who attended their performance at The Cockpit in Leeds last night.
