Poppleton, who have only won two games out of six in division two, provided the shock result of the first round in the York Amateur Bowling Association Williamson Cup.

Poppleton beat division one side Haxby Road 79-64.

Holgate WMC reversed a 7-1 league defeat against Bootham with a resounding 105-62 win.

RI Amateurs remain unbeaten and continue to dominate division one, but Holgate managed to move off the bottom with their first win, a 7-1 victory over Haxby Road.

In division two, Stewart have opened up a 15-point lead, with main rivals Dringhouses losing 7-1 to West Park.

Stamford Bridge recovered from a bad start with victories over Hull Road Park and Harrogate, leaving Clifton trailing by seven points at the bottom.

A top of the table clash in division three saw leaders Copmanthorpe beat Scarcroft 7-1.

Yorkshire play Durham in the Alsop Cup at Kirkbymoorside today, with the York league represented by P Williamson, N McDonald, C King (all of Holgate), and S Daly (of Shipton).

YABA individual competitions will start on June 24 with triples prelim followed by fours on alternate Fridays. Pairs start on Sunday, July 3 and singles prelims on July 5.
