YORK RI Football Club’s Under-12s have regained the City of York Girls’ Football League title.

The side finished as runners-up last season having won the championship at U10s level, but they are pictured parading the trophy again this year.

After missing out by a goal difference of one last term, RI set the record straight by winning 16 games out of 18 and again achieving the lowest goals against tally.

The youngsters narrowly missed out on a league and cup double as they lost to Stamford Bridge Scorpions in the knockout final at Pocklington Town.

York RI defender Ellie Rankeillor was awarded girl of the game in spite of the defeat.

RI clinched the title with three rapid-fire wins in two weeks where they beat Fulford 3-0, Tockwith 4-0 and Poppleton Tigers 3-0.

Goalkeeper and captain Georgia Gourlay has conceded the fewest goals of any ’keeper in the league for the last three years, while her high-scoring team-mates achieved the biggest win, beating Knaresborough Celtic 14 -0.

The RI girls are aiming to finish the season on a high with two tournaments in York and a major tournament in Blackpool.
