YORK ‘B’ are off the mark in the York and District Junior Cricket Association Burn & Company Under-11s League.
The Clifton Park youngsters triumphed in a nail-biting one-run victory at Pocklington.
Joe Doughty top-scored for York with 16 and he was supported well by Owen Pudsey (10), Ryan Beaumont (9) and Sam Backhouse (9) as they posted 269-6, with a net score of 239.
In reply, the Pocklington totalled 273-7, but their net score was 238.
York fielded well, led by captain Doughty, and there were eye-catching bowling figures from Backhouse (2-3 from three overs), James Gannon (2-4 from two overs), Callum Brown (2-5 from two overs), Doughty (1-5 from three overs) and Charlie Atkin (two overs for two runs).
York took two wickets in the last two overs to clinch the win.
