YAPHAM edged out Malton & Old Malton by only seven runs in the York and District Junior Cricket Association Burn & Company Under-11s Cup.
Bowlers dominated and Malton’s N Jackson took 2-8 and M Jefferson claimed 2-6, with Yapham’s Oliver Robinson hitting back with 2-9, supported by Jamie Creaser’s 2-8.
The only batsmen to prosper were Yapham’s Oliver Robinson and Callum Mooney, who both scored nine.
Heworth carried their league form into the cup as they overcame Ovington.
Notable contributions with the bat for Heworth came from Alistair Browne (21), Edward Rymer (17), Ryan Whitley (16) and Oliver Hughes (13), while the leading bowlers were Whitley, with 2-1, and Josh Bell with 2-5.
For Ovington, Pavas Sinhan finished with figures of 1-13.
Hosts Osbaldwick had their bowlers to thank for a good win over York.
James Hattee, with 2-5, and Will Dalton, with 2-4, had the best bowling figures, while Hattee also hit 29 with the bat and Alfie Oliver got 12.
Acomb booked their place in the next round with a win over Tadcaster Magnets.
Dan Watkinson was again in the runs with 13, supported by A Sanderson 14 and L Crosbie 10. Magnets’ L Pratt took 2-11.
G Lawton was top scorer in Magnets’ reply with 14 and M Buckle made 12. Crosbie claimed 2-7 for Acomb.
Selby went down to Londesborough Park by nine wickets.
Selby made 71-3 in their 20 overs, with Brandon I’Anson top-scoring with 28, backed by Tom Nicholson’s 12.
Rory Stephenson led the Park reply with 32 not out as they rattled up 72-1. Jake Hemsworth made 14.
In the U11s League, York’s win over Selby saw them join a cluster of teams on six points, just behind league leaders Londesborough Park. S Wordsworth was 10 not out and M Boswell 16 not out, while J Williams hit 12 as York posted a good score, despite respectable bowling figures from Harry Fillingham (0-5), Luke Jolly (1-5) and Oliver Steward (2-5).
The Selby batting never really got going as the York bowlers C Hall (0-2), M Scurry (0-2), Ryan Beaumont (1-0) and H Savage (0-2) turned in even better figures.
Acomb ‘A’ had the better of their encounter with York ‘B’ in Zone ‘A’ of the Burn & Company U9 League.
Acomb’s batting stars were J Thornton (30), H Watkinson (20), W Anderson (17), B Thornton (15), T Brown (12) and J Tingle (10). Brown then took a hat-trick and ended with figures of 3-2, while York’s E Hargreaves made 13.
In Zone ‘B’, Pocklington beat Acomb ‘C’ in a close game.
Acomb’s H Watkinson hit 26 and T Brown made 17, while Pock’s O Wilson made 25 and took 2-11, and K Wilson made 16 and H Jackson 2-5.
Leaders Dunnington won their Zone ‘C’ clash at Stamford Bridge.
Harry Griffith top-scored with 19, while Finlay Smith and Charlie Cresswell both hit 15 and Charles Ford made 12. B Barnett returned figures of 4-8 for Bridge. Stamford fought hard as H Cooper scored 19 and S Pratt 10.
Ovington ‘B’ were unable to make home advantage count against Acomb ‘B’ in Zone ‘A’ of the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire U13s League.
They were held to 49-6 as Dominic Everard took 3-7.
Jack Smith ensured it was a close contest as he then claimed 4-5, but Joe Hudson’s 22 not out ensured an Acomb victory.
