A ROYAL knees-up to mark the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton helped raise cash for a York children’s charity.
A street party in Dunnington that attracted more than 200 people was such a success that it has been able to make a £300 donation to local charity SNAPPY.
Ken Sutcliffe, chairman of the steering group behind the April 29 event for residents of upper Kerver Lane, handed over a cheque to Anne Stamp from SNAPPY, which will use the money to purchase bikes for special needs children. The day featured traditional bunting, trestle tables borrowed from the local school, Scouts and church, children’s and adult’s races, a giant chess set and bouncy castle. York jazz group The New Notes nominated SNAPPY to receive any surplus funds generated from the day.
Ken said: “We had a wonderful afternoon and we’re just really pleased that everybody got involved and got so much out of the day. To be able to help SNAPPY in the valuable work they do is just the icing on the cake.”
