MISSING York parrot Merlin may be in the Strensall area, his owners have revealed.
John and Amanda Gardiner, of Maplehurst Avenue, off Huntington Road, say they had received a phone call on Saturday night from an elderly man who had seen an African grey flying past as he was driving near Towthorpe earlier in the day. The man said his wife had told him she had seen an article in The Press about Merlin, who flew out of their home a fortnight ago today when a door blew open.
The man told them the bird had been flying towards Strensall Common.
He and Amanda got up at 5am on Sunday to launch a two-and-a half-hour search of the area but failed to find Merlin.
The couple, who have put up a £500 reward for their pet’s safe return, say they have hardly been able to eat or sleep since he went missing.
