A YORK-BASED pub company has won a top award from industry lobby group Camra (Campaign for Real Ale).
Pivovar, which is based in Elvington, has won the award for “conversion to pub use” category in the National Pub Design Award.
The award was for the Sheffield Tap, which Pivovar created in the old first-class waiting room at Sheffield Station.
The building had been falling into disrepair from the mid-1970s until work began in 2008, and the judges said: “This is a fine example of a splendidly atmospheric interior that has been rescued from the dead through vision, dedication and love.”
Pivovar also runs Pivní in Patrick Pool in York and the Euston Tap in London, and is currently working to turn the old tea-room at York Station into the York Tap, which will showcase international bottled beer and cask ale from around Yorkshire.
There was one other Yorkshire winner in the awards – The Sportsman in Huddersfield, which won the English Heritage Conservation award.
