British number one Andy Murray came from a set down to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 3-6 7-6 (7/2) 6-4 and win the rain-delayed AEGON Championships final at Queen’s Club.
The capacity crowd of nearly 7,000 witnessed number five seed Tsonga show great composure to take the opening set 6-4 against the 2009 champion.
Murray, the world number four and tournament second seed, had been sublime in his semi-final demolition of Andy Roddick was finding the athleticism of the Frenchman hard to counter.
But the Scot, above, began to finding his range as he moved 5-2 ahead before closing out the set 7-6 (7/2) to level the match.
In the deciding set, there was little to choose between the two men, who met in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last year, until Murray broke to lead 3-2.
Murray’s moment
ANDY MURRAY’S form has peaked at just the right time.
Towards the end of his match against Jo-Wilfrid Tsonga in the rain-delayed final at Queen’s Club yesterday, he was even indulging in a little showboating: thrilling the crowd with an outrageous between-the-legs winner.
For much of this year, Murray’s form has been dismal. So it is great to see him playing with such exuberance.
Just one word of caution. Every time he does well going into Wimbledon, the nation seems to expect, almost demand, that he win. It is a huge burden to carry, especially with the likes of Federer and Nadal standing in his way.
So allow him to enjoy the moment, and try not to weigh him down with too much expectation.
