I READ in my national newspaper the other day that Sir Stuart Rose is to receive an £8 million plus pay-off after stepping down from Marks & Spencer.
I am sure Sir Stuart is a wonderful human being and no doubt some will say, well worth every penny of his reward from grateful shareholders at the company.
In the same paper, I also read that a family which includes a disabled mother and a severely disabled child were told that they couldn’t have benefits to pay for all the nappies the child has to use because of the severity of her disability. It would cost £8 a day. Apparently the country can’t afford it.
Two stories, two Britains. The next time someone from this ghastly government tell s us that the economic pain is worth it because “We are all in this together”, ask them who they mean by “all”.
