THE body of a 69-year-old man was found near train lines in Yorkshire today, leading to some services to York being diverted.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was struck by a train just before 7pm on Monday, June 13. He was hit a train heading south on the East Coast Main Line.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "BTP and South Yorkshire Police officers were called to the line close to Arksey Lane crossing, Arksey, Doncaster following a report of a man having been struck by a train.
"An extensive search of the lines and surrounding area was conducted throughout the night, involving both ground units and a helicopter, and continued this morning. Officers subsequently discovered the body of a man, believed to be 69-years-old, in undergrowth near to the crossing.”
The spokesman said the man had suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a train, but his death was not being treated as suspicious, and enquiries were ongoing to identify him and inform his family.
